Taiwan commenced construction on Monday for a new advanced semiconductor packaging industrial park in the southern city of Kaohsiung. The development will anchor specialized facilities for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)—the world’s largest contract chipmaker—dedicated to testing emerging technologies and training industry talent, further solidifying the island's critical role in the global artificial intelligence supply chain.

Project Scope and Timeline

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Kaohsiung Deputy Mayor Luo Da-sheng outlined the primary structural and operational milestones for the site:

Location: Baipu Industrial Park, Kaohsiung.

TSMC Infrastructure: The company will construct two main buildings: a technology verification laboratory and a dedicated talent training center.

Operational Target: The facilities are projected to officially commence operations during the fourth quarter of 2029.

Strategic Importance in the Global AI Race

The expansion into advanced packaging addresses a critical bottleneck in modern computing hardware:
