Entlaq and El Gouna Renew Partnership as SDR Entrepreneurship Summit Returns in 2027
Entlaq and El Gouna Red Sea have renewed their partnership to host the fifth edition of the Egyptian Entrepreneurship Sector Diagnostic Report Summit (SDR 2027), extending a collaboration that has positioned the Red Sea destination as a meeting point for Egypt’s startup, investment and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The announcement followed the conclusion of SDR 2026, which brought together more than 500 entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers and industry experts in El Gouna over three days from September 10 to 12.
Rather than ending with this year’s discussions, Entlaq and El Gouna said the partnership will continue into 2027, with the next edition expected to build on the data, investment discussions and policy debates generated during the fourth summit.
From diagnosing the ecosystem to acting on the findings
Held under the theme “Data × Innovation: Reimagining Egypt’s Entrepreneurship Landscape,” SDR 2026 focused on a central challenge facing Egypt’s startup ecosystem: how to translate data and discussions about market constraints into practical opportunities for companies and investors.
Sessions covered Egypt’s economy, venture capital, fintech, logistics, technology, startups and emerging sectors, bringing together government representatives, private investors and entrepreneurs.
The summit was held under the patronage of the Egyptian Cabinet and several ministries, with participation from senior government officials and representatives of the private sector and investment community.
Its partners included Vodafone Egypt as technology partner, EgyptAir, Al Baraka Capital, McDonald’s, arqam, Finance in Motion, GB Ventures, Bokra, Sanad Partners, EPEA, Asharq Bloomberg and Moniify.
Entlaq plans a bigger fifth edition
Mohamed Ehab, CEO of Entlaq, said the participation and discussions generated during SDR 2026 provide a foundation for developing the summit further.
He said the next edition will focus on expanding corporate participation and making more data, information and insights available to different stakeholders across Egypt’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.
According to Ehab, the objective is for SDR to continue developing as a platform that connects different parts of the ecosystem rather than functioning simply as an annual conference.
That approach reflects Entlaq’s wider emphasis on using data to identify structural challenges facing startups and investors, while creating a forum where government, capital providers and entrepreneurs can discuss possible responses.
El Gouna extends its role beyond hosting the summit
The renewed agreement also signals a broader role for El Gouna in the partnership.
Haitham Samir, Chief Commercial Officer of El Gouna Red Sea, said the destination’s involvement is based on supporting entrepreneurs and creating an environment in which companies can establish operations and grow.
He pointed to El Gouna’s development over the past 36 years from its first home, hotel, school and hospital into an integrated year-round community that can also accommodate entrepreneurs and businesses.
Samir said the partnership with Entlaq is intended to extend beyond hosting the event, with an opportunity to develop ideas emerging from summit discussions into larger initiatives and projects over the coming years.
He also confirmed that El Gouna will host SDR 2027, continuing the summit for a fifth edition.
A summit evolving into a year-to-year platform
The decision to return to El Gouna gives SDR continuity at a time when Egypt’s entrepreneurship ecosystem is dealing with questions that cannot be resolved during a three-day event alone.
Access to capital, startup regulation, fintech development, logistics, investment structures and the ability to turn data into business decisions were among the issues discussed during the 2026 edition.
Renewing the partnership for SDR 2027 gives Entlaq an opportunity to measure what changes between successive editions rather than restarting the conversation each year.
That could become one of the summit’s more important functions: connecting an annual diagnostic of Egypt’s entrepreneurship landscape with an ongoing discussion about what happens after the data is published and the conference ends.
