Under the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Collaboration, and Sustainability," the Indian capital, New Delhi, is hosting today the events of the 18th edition of the BRICS Leaders' Summit, held from September 12 to 13.

The BRICS group was established in 2006 to enhance economic cooperation among member states and shape a more balanced global economic system. The bloc primarily included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Egypt officially joined BRICS at the beginning of January 2024, alongside Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iran, and Ethiopia, followed by Indonesia's official accession to the group in January 2025.

Egypt and BRICS

Coinciding with the launch of the summit, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued a press release detailing the economic relations between Egypt and BRICS countries. Data released by the agency on Saturday showed that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and BRICS nations rose to $36.7 billion during the first half of 2026, compared to $29.3 billion during the same period in 2025.

Meanwhile, the value of Egyptian exports to BRICS countries recorded $6.6 billion in the first half of 2026, compared to $7.4 billion during the same period in 2025.

Top Importing Countries

Saudi Arabia topped the list of BRICS nations importing from Egypt in the first half of 2026, with Egyptian exports to the Kingdom reaching $1.8 billion, followed by the UAE at $1.7 billion.

They were followed by India ($868 million), China ($841 million), Brazil ($633 million), Russia ($480 million), South Africa ($111 million), Indonesia, and Ethiopia ($47 million).

Key Exported Commodity Groups to BRICS Countries:

Pearls, precious stones, and jewelry: $1.2 billion.

Vegetables and fruits: $1 billion.

Fuel, mineral oils, and their distillation products: $844 million.

Fertilizers: $552 million.

Electrical machinery and equipment: $400 million.

Plastics and articles thereof: $304 million.

Conversely, the value of Egyptian imports from BRICS countries reached $30.2 billion in the first half of 2026, compared to $21.8 billion during the same period in 2025.

China led the BRICS nations in exports to Egypt during the first half of 2026, with Egyptian imports from the country amounting to $10.4 billion. It was followed by the UAE ($5.3 billion), Saudi Arabia ($5.2 billion), Russia ($3.8 billion), Brazil ($2.4 billion), India ($1.7 billion), Indonesia ($1.2 billion), South Africa ($67 million), and finally Ethiopia ($13 million).

Key Imported Commodity Groups from BRICS Countries:

Fuel, mineral oils, and their distillation products: $5.2 billion.

Electrical machinery and equipment: $4.6 billion.

Cereals: $2.1 billion.

Iron, steel, and articles thereof: $1.8 billion.

Vehicles, tractors, and bicycles: $1.3 billion.

Organic chemical products: $647 million.

Investments Between Egypt and BRICS Countries

Investments from BRICS countries in Egypt recorded $6.2 billion during the fiscal year 2024/2025, while Egyptian investments in BRICS nations reached $2.2 billion during the same period.

The UAE topped the list of highest-investing BRICS countries in Egypt during the 2024/2025 fiscal year, with Emirati investments amounting to $4.7 billion. It was followed by Saudi Arabia ($1.1 billion), China ($277.6 million), Russia ($62.4 million), India ($17.8 million), and South Africa ($9.2 million).

Financial Remittances Between Egypt and BRICS Countries

CAPMAS data also revealed that remittances from Egyptians working in BRICS countries reached $15.7 billion during the 2024/2025 fiscal year, compared to $9.8 billion in the 2023/2024 fiscal year.

Saudi Arabia ranked first among BRICS countries in remittances from Egyptian expatriates during FY 2024/2025, recording $12 billion. It was followed by the UAE ($3.6 billion), China ($23.3 million), India ($10.1 million), South Africa ($8.5 million), Indonesia ($7.3 million), Brazil ($2.9 million), Russia ($1.5 million), and Ethiopia ($741,000).

Meanwhile, remittances from BRICS nationals working in Egypt reached $202.5 million during the 2024/2025 fiscal year, up from $76.2 million in the 2023/2024 fiscal year.

Saudi Arabia took the top spot in remittances sent by BRICS nationals working in Egypt during FY 2024/2025, reaching $125.1 million. It was followed by the UAE ($44 million), India ($18.9 million), South Africa ($7.2 million), China ($3.5 million), Indonesia ($2.9 million), Brazil ($620,000), Russia ($165,000), and finally Ethiopia ($104,000).

According to mission estimates, the number of Egyptians residing in BRICS countries reached 5.6 million by the end of 2025.
