Responsible AI Cup 2.0 Launches under Auspices of MCIT
The Responsible AI Cup 2.0, MENA’s first incentive-based initiative for SMEs building or using AI systems, will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). The event is organized by the Access to Knowledge for Development Center (A2K4D) at Onsi Sawiris School of Business, the American University in Cairo (AUC), in collaboration with the MENA Observatory on Responsible AI.
The competition is designed to foster a new generation of startups and SMEs committed to responsible AI, build capacity through dedicated workshops and training, and strengthen partnerships among academia, the private sector, civil society, and regulators.
Participating enterprises are invited to embed the principles of transparency, fairness, and accountability into their AI-driven products, services, and operations, in line with global standards. Their AI systems will be evaluated across eight core themes of responsible AI: privacy, accountability, environment, safety, transparency, fairness, human control, and responsibility.
Applications proceed in two phases. Enterprises must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) confirming their eligibility and providing an overview of their AI solution. Shortlisted applicants will then complete a Responsible AI Self-Assessment Form, evaluating their AI system against responsible AI principles and practices.
Top-performing participants will be recognized at the awards ceremony on November 24 with substantial prizes: USD 4,000 for first place, USD 3,000 for second place, and USD 2,000 for third place, alongside honorary awards for fourth and fifth place.
MCIT's auspices over the Responsible AI Cup 2.0 reflect its continued commitment to embedding responsible practices into Egypt's growing AI industry, encouraging enterprises to treat ethical AI development as a foundation for sustainable growth.
