Beyti, a subsidiary of Almarai, organized an extensive panel discussion titled "From Standards to Application... Egypt's Vision to Enhance Food Quality and Safety." The event brought together key industry stakeholders to support state efforts in building a secure and sustainable food ecosystem, highlighting the private sector's crucial role in applying the highest quality standards.
The session was attended by prominent figures, including Dr. Tariq El-Hoby, Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA); Mai Khairy, Executive Director of the Food Export Council; Chris Abboud, General Manager of Beyti; and several board members from the Chamber of Food Industries.
A Shared National Responsibility
Dr. Tariq El-Hoby emphasized that food safety has evolved from a standard regulatory obligation into a shared national responsibility that requires seamless integration between regulators and the private sector.
Highlighting the sector's immense economic weight, Dr. El-Hoby cited global research estimating the total Egyptian food market at approximately $175 billion. Within this, the agricultural and food industries market is valued at around $30 billion, with projections indicating a 9% growth rate by 2030. He stressed that adopting best practices across the entire supply chain—from farm to final product—is essential to boosting the competitiveness of Egyptian goods locally and globally.
Beyti’s EGP 30 Million Quality Investment
Chris Abboud, General Manager of Beyti, outlined the rapidly evolving landscape of the food industry and the increasing challenges related to food security and sustainability. He noted that Beyti’s role extends beyond producing safe food to actively contributing to a more efficient national food system.
To ensure premium standards, Abboud revealed that Beyti has invested over EGP 30 million in laboratory analysis and control systems. Operating 32 state-of-the-art production lines, the company conducts more than 11 million analyses annually. This is reinforced by over 1,000 internal inspection campaigns and 7,000 audit hours every year. Reflecting its strict compliance with regulatory frameworks, Beyti has been officially included in the NFSA’s "White List."
Export Growth and Global Competitiveness
On the export front, Mai Khairy, Executive Director of the Food Export Council, announced that Egypt's food industry exports reached $2.432 billion during the first four months of 2026, registering a 7.1% growth compared to the same period last year. This builds on the sector's strong performance in 2025, which saw total exports hit $6.8 billion.
Khairy pointed out that international markets no longer rely solely on competitive pricing; they increasingly demand consistent quality, rigorous product safety, and efficient traceability systems. She urged companies to continually invest in quality laboratories, employee training, and advanced production lines to minimize the risk of shipment rejections and maintain the trust of global importers.
The panel concluded by reaffirming the necessity of continuous dialogue and integration between the NFSA, the Export Council, the Chamber of Food Industries, and private enterprises to secure a sustainable presence for Egyptian products in targeted international markets.
