Amazon Launches ”Amazon Now” in Egypt, Promising 20-Minute Delivery Powered by AI
Amazon has officially rolled out its "Amazon Now" service on its Egyptian platform. This strategic move aims to provide an ultra-fast delivery experience for everyday products, including groceries, basic commodities, household essentials, and personal care items. The service targets a 20-minute delivery window in covered areas, backed by an AI-driven operational ecosystem designed to optimize order processing speed and elevate overall delivery efficiency.
Strategic Vision and Market Launch
During a press conference today, Omar El-Sahi, General Manager of Amazon Egypt, stated that the launch of "Amazon Now" aligns with the company’s vision to introduce innovative solutions that meet customers' daily needs. He noted that Amazon had been studying this move for a significant period, recognizing its immense value to the Egyptian community and its shifting consumer demands.
"This service represents a highly critical step for Amazon Egypt," El-Sahi explained. "We have spent a long time studying and refining its details, driven by our belief that it offers real value to the Egyptian market. It provides a new, faster way to reach customers with an experience tailored to their daily lives."
Geographic Coverage and Infrastructure
El-Sahi detailed that "Amazon Now" has already commenced operations in Greater Cairo and Alexandria, alongside availability in the North Coast during the summer season.
To ensure orders are prepped and delivered within the 20-minute timeframe, the service relies on a robust logistics network comprising approximately 25 micro-fulfillment centers and small operational hubs. This infrastructure heavily leverages artificial intelligence for:
Inventory management.
Operational optimization.
Accurate demand forecasting.
While the current coverage focuses on Greater Cairo (Cairo, Giza, and surrounding areas) and Alexandria, the company plans a gradual geographic expansion based on regional demand metrics.
Customer-Centric Focus and Sustainable Investment
El-Sahi emphasized that the primary goal is to provide a faster and easier shopping experience while strictly maintaining Amazon’s hallmark standards: competitive pricing, high-speed execution, and a premium customer experience.
"The customer is the most important factor for us at Amazon. We are committed to offering this service at the same competitive prices they expect, with the same level of speed and efficiency. The customer is our starting point, and everything we build is based on their needs and expectations." — Omar El-Sahi
He pointed out that entering the quick-commerce space requires formidable infrastructure and massive capital investments. The success of such services hinges not just on a flashy launch, but on building a solid foundation to ensure long-term sustainability and quality.
Over the past period, Amazon Egypt has rigorously focused on upgrading its operational infrastructure and logistics networks. This development was crucial to support faster fulfillment—especially as consumers increasingly rely on digital shopping for daily essentials—and to integrate AI effectively into supply chain decision-making.
"We wanted to ensure we were in the best position to execute this service perfectly and scale it correctly—whether in terms of infrastructure, operations, workforce, or technology. All of this was necessary to deliver a service worthy of Amazon's customers in Egypt."
A New Dimension for Egyptian E-Commerce
El-Sahi concluded that "Amazon Now" is viewed as a vital upgrade to the local shopping experience rather than just an add-on service. By adapting Amazon's global expertise to fit the nuances of the Egyptian market, the company aims to offer a practical, rapid solution for daily consumer needs. The company will continue to monitor fulfillment center performance and measure customer response to support future expansion plans and solidify its leadership in Egypt's e-commerce landscape.
