Alibaba Bans ”Claude Code” AI Tool Internally Over Security Concerns Amid Distillation Accusations
Alibaba has decided to ban the use of the intelligent programming tool "Claude Code" within its work environments following mounting security concerns regarding potential vulnerabilities or built-in "backdoors" in the software.
According to the decision, the ban will take effect starting July 10, strictly prohibiting employees from running the tool within the company's internal systems.
This measure comes in light of previous accusations from the US artificial intelligence company "Anthropic" against entities linked to Alibaba. Anthropic alleged attempts to extract the capabilities of the "Claude" model through a technique known as "distillation," which it considered a large-scale, illicit attack on its proprietary models.
Previous reports also indicated that massive operations, involving tens of millions of interactions with the "Claude" model across multiple accounts, were executed with the aim of training alternative models relying on its outputs.
Conversely, Alibaba has not issued an official comment regarding the decision or the reported accusations. Meanwhile, technological tensions among global AI companies continue to escalate amid the fierce race to develop advanced models and protect proprietary data.
