Amazon MGM Studios Drops Distribution of Luca Guadagnino’s OpenAI Drama ”Artificial”
In a surprising move, Amazon MGM Studios has decided to step away from distributing the highly anticipated film "Artificial", a cinematic retelling of the explosive 2023 crisis at OpenAI. The withdrawal comes despite the project nearing completion and reportedly receiving strong, positive feedback during early test screenings.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, the film delves into the dramatic boardroom coup that led to the sudden, temporary ouster of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. It chronicles the subsequent internal chaos, the threat of mass employee resignations, Microsoft's swift intervention, and Altman's eventual triumphant return days later.
A Star-Studded Cast:
Andrew Garfield stars as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Monica Barbaro portrays Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati.
Ike Barinholtz takes on the role of tech billionaire Elon Musk.
According to media reports, Amazon justified its exit by stating the production is currently seeking an alternative distributor, while maintaining that the studio's relationship with Guadagnino remains strong. However, industry insiders suggest that the film's "darker" tone and its controversial portrayal of prominent tech figures may have heavily influenced the studio's decision to pull out.
