Egypt Restores Partner Confidence at EGYPES 2026: Arrears Slashed to $1.3B as Production Surges

During the grand opening of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2026), inaugurated by H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Karim Badawi announced a landmark achievement in fiscal stability. Egypt has successfully reduced arrears to international energy partners from $6.1 billion in July 2024 to just $1.3 billion today, with a firm commitment to full settlement by June 30, 2026.

This fiscal progress is a cornerstone of Egypt's broader energy strategy, which has already yielded 83 new oil and gas discoveries and added 363 wells to the production map. Minister Badawi emphasized that Egypt is aggressively expanding its role as a regional energy hub, highlighting the strategic integration of Cyprus’s Cronos and Aphrodite fields with Egypt’s liquefaction plants in Idku and Damietta. With $6.5 billion invested in exploration during FY 2024/2025 and plans to drill 484 wells by 2030, Egypt is signaling a robust return to high-velocity growth in the global energy market.
