Egypt’s ICT Minister Strengthens AI Cooperation at AI Impact Summit 2026 in India

On the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit 2026 held in New Delhi, Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Raafat Hindi, held a series of high-level meetings aimed at deepening international cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), digital capacity building, and technological innovation.

During his visit, the Minister met with Jitin Prasada, India’s Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Electronics and Information Technology, in the presence of Egypt’s Ambassador to India, Kamel Galal. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in ICT, with particular emphasis on digital transformation and AI.

Both sides reviewed ongoing collaboration, including partnerships in digital capacity building between Egypt’s Information Technology Institute (ITI), affiliated with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and India’s National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT). The two ministers agreed to further deepen cooperation in AI through technical consultations and expanded joint initiatives.

In a separate meeting, Eng. Hindi met with Michael Kratsios, the U.S. President’s Science Advisor, to discuss Egypt’s National AI Strategy and explore avenues for benefiting from the U.S. experience in advancing AI ecosystems. The meeting reaffirmed the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States, highlighting the pivotal role of American technology companies operating in Egypt in supporting the country’s digital transformation and AI ambitions.

The meetings were attended by Dr. Hoda Baraka, Advisor to the Minister for Technological Skills Development, and Somaya Aziz, Head of the Central Department for International Relations at the Ministry.

Egypt’s Vision at the Global Partnership on AI

As part of the summit’s agenda, Eng. Hindi delivered Egypt’s statement during the meeting of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI). He emphasized that Egypt’s formal application to join GPAI reflects a strategic commitment to positioning the country within the global AI landscape as a nation that balances ambition with responsibility and upholds human dignity and shared progress.

He noted that Egypt’s AI trajectory is guided by the OECD AI Principles, the National AI Strategy, the Egyptian Charter for Responsible AI, and the National AI Governance Framework. These pillars aim to foster a trustworthy, ethical, and value-driven AI ecosystem.

The Minister highlighted that AI is already a practical reality in Egypt, pointing to the launch of a national large language model and AI-driven applications in education, healthcare, and public service governance. These solutions rely on local data and Arabic-language capabilities, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring that technology serves all citizens.

Eng. Hindi further affirmed Egypt’s support for GPAI’s 2026 priorities and its participation as a Friend of the Hiroshima AI Process, reflecting its commitment to advancing safe, transparent, and accountable generative AI globally. Egypt is actively engaged with GPAI centers of expertise and collaborative projects, including open-source multilingual AI and partnerships with countries in the Global South.

He welcomed initiatives related to agentic AI, AI computing infrastructure, and transformative applications in agriculture, noting their alignment with Egypt’s vision of leveraging AI to strengthen economies, protect societies, and unlock new development opportunities.

Egypt, he added, stands ready to contribute to GPAI working tracks, particularly in fair algorithms, AI-enabled public sector performance, Africa-centered engagement, compute accessibility, governance of agentic AI, and multilingual open-source systems to promote a more inclusive global AI ecosystem.

In concluding his remarks, Eng. Hindi stressed that Egypt believes the future of AI must be shaped by collective vision, shared responsibility, and common human values, emphasizing that well-governed AI has the potential to uplift societies worldwide.

Cooperation with India’s IIT Delhi

At the conclusion of his visit, the Minister toured the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), one of 23 institutes within India’s IIT network recognized as centers of excellence in science, engineering, and technology education and research.

During his meeting with Anil Verma, Head of International Relations at IIT Delhi, both sides agreed to explore the signing of a framework agreement to promote cooperation in applied research. The proposed collaboration would facilitate knowledge exchange with Egypt’s Applied Innovation Center and support academic engagement with Egypt University of Informatics.

The visit underscores Egypt’s commitment to expanding global partnerships in artificial intelligence and digital innovation as part of its broader strategy to build a competitive, inclusive, and sustainable digital economy.
