Turkish Airlines Resumes Flights to Sulaymaniyah, Expanding Its Network in Iraq
Turkish Airlines has officially resumed its flights between Istanbul and Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, after a suspension that began in April 2023. The relaunch strengthens the flag carrier’s presence in the Iraqi market, where it already operates routes to Baghdad, Basra, Erbil, Kirkuk, and Najaf.

The airline announced that flights between Istanbul Airport and Sulaymaniyah International Airport will operate four times a week—on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays—starting from November 2, 2025. Turkish Airlines also plans to increase the frequency to daily flights from March 27, 2026, with the start of the 2026 summer schedule.
Commenting on the relaunch, Prof. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee at Turkish Airlines, said:
> “We are glad to relaunch our Sulaymaniyah flights, connecting this destination, which boasts rich cultural and natural heritage, to the world with the comfort and hospitality of Turkish Airlines. With this route, we will not only further strengthen our presence in the region but also continue to contribute to the trade and cultural ties between Türkiye and Iraq.”
According to the airline, fares between Istanbul and Sulaymaniyah will start from USD 325, offering passengers access to Turkish Airlines’ extensive global network covering 355 destinations across 131 countries.
The resumption is expected to enhance connectivity between Türkiye and Iraq, facilitating greater movement of people and goods and reinforcing Istanbul’s role as a major transit hub between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Founded in 1933 with just five aircraft, Turkish Airlines today operates a fleet of 512 passenger and cargo planes. As a member of the Star Alliance, the carrier provides global access through a network that serves more than 1,160 airports in 192 countries.
