Banque Misr Joins “Open Your Account in Egypt” Initiative to Support Egyptians Abroad

In line with the “Open Your Account in Egypt” initiative launched by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs, Banque Misr and the National Bank of Egypt have signed a cooperation protocol with the Ministry to facilitate account opening procedures for Egyptians working abroad, in coordination with Egyptian embassies and consulates in several countries.

Through the initiative, Egyptians living abroad can open financial inclusion bank accounts by visiting Egyptian embassies and consulates, using only a valid national ID card or passport. The program also provides access to a range of tailored banking services, including online banking, balance inquiries, money transfers, and certificate purchases and redemptions—offering a safe and convenient way to manage and invest their savings in Egypt.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Hisham Okasha, CEO of Banque Misr, emphasized that the bank’s participation stems from its commitment to supporting national efforts led by the Central Bank to promote financial inclusion and strengthen ties between Egyptians abroad and their homeland through flexible, accessible banking solutions.

> “This initiative represents a major milestone in enabling Egyptians working overseas to access banking services without being physically present in Egypt,” Okasha said. “By working closely with our embassies and consulates, we are making it easier for expatriates to stay connected with the Egyptian financial system.”

He added that the initiative reflects Banque Misr’s dedication to offering innovative and customer-centric financial products that meet the needs of Egyptians abroad, providing them with secure and reliable tools to manage and grow their savings. The simplified account opening process—requiring only a national ID or valid passport—ensures a seamless and accessible banking experience that fits the diverse lifestyles of expatriates.

Okasha further noted that Banque Misr continuously works to enhance its products and services to meet the evolving needs of all customer segments, with a strong focus on building trust in the Egyptian banking sector and fostering long-term engagement with Egyptians around the world.

He also highlighted that the initiative aligns with Egypt’s broader vision for digital transformation and sustainable development, reaffirming Banque Misr’s role as a national institution committed to driving economic growth, expanding financial inclusion, and reinforcing Egypt’s position as a strong and stable economy regionally and globally.
