Google rolls out ‘preferred sources’ feature

Google has rolled out a new feature called "preferred sources" that allows users to customize their news experience by selecting their favorite news outlets. This feature, launched on August 12, 2025, in the U.S. and India, enables users to curate the Top Stories section in Google Search to show more content from the sources they trust and follow.

Once users add their preferred sources, Google will prioritize displaying fresh and relevant articles from those outlets prominently within the Top Stories section. Additionally, a dedicated "From your sources" section will appear on the search results page to make it easier for users to discover more content from their selected sites. Users can select as many preferred sources as they want and have the flexibility to add or modify their selections at any time. However, content from other sources will still appear to maintain a diverse range of news coverage.

To set up preferred sources, users need to search for a news topic, click the icon next to the Top Stories header, select their favorite sources, and refresh the results to see the updated feed. This feature aims to put users in control of their news feed by allowing them to prioritize accuracy and reliability according to their personal preferences, fostering stronger connections between publishers and their audiences.
