EG-CERT Organizes Second Edition of ‘Capture The Flag’ National Cybersecurity Competition

The Egyptian Computer Emergency Readiness Team (EG-CERT) of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) organized the second edition of Capture The Flag national cybersecurity competition (EG-CTF) during the Cyber and Information Security Exhibition and Conference (CAISEC 2025), held on May 25–26 in Cairo.
EG-CTF is one of the leading national events dedicated to cybersecurity, reflecting the country’s commitment to strengthening the cybersecurity landscape. It aims to discover young talents and enhance participants’ technical skills across different levels, from beginners to professionals, in line with the objectives of the National Cybersecurity Strategy 2023-2027.
This edition drew 1,656 registered participants forming 635 teams from diverse groups and experience levels. Online qualifiers were held on May 23, and the top 10 teams advanced to the finals, which were conducted on May 26 during CAISEC. The competition featured a variety of challenges—including web exploitation, reverse engineering, cryptography, and digital forensics—offering a unique educational and competitive experience. These challenges helped sharpen the participants’ skills in an environment that simulated real-world scenarios in this critical field.
At the conclusion of CAISEC, the winning teams were announced and recognized for their accomplishments. The team securing first place received EGP 100K, while the second-place team was awarded EGP 75K, and the third-place team earned EGP 50K.
Established in 2009, EG-CERT provides computer and information security incident response, support, defense, and analysis against cyberattacks, and collaboration with governmental and financial entities and any other critical information infrastructure sectors. EG-CERT also provides an early warning against malware spreading and massive cyberattacks against Egypt’s telecommunication infrastructure.
