Meta Turns to Equity Financing to Accelerate AI Expansion

Meta plans to raise $95 billion to support its investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure and advanced AI capabilities, as major technology companies increase spending to secure the computing resources needed for the AI boom.

The company said it intends to raise $35 billion initially through a public share offering, followed by another $60 billion through a direct-to-market selling program.

Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom Show Interest

Meta said Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom have expressed interest in purchasing shares worth up to $5 billion each.

The planned fundraising comes as Meta seeks additional financing for the infrastructure required to expand its AI applications, its Muse AI agent and its data center operations.

The company plans to combine operating cash flow, highly rated debt, partnerships and equity financing to fund its investment program.

Meta Raises AI Capital Spending Plans

Meta is increasing its infrastructure spending as it competes with other technology giants to expand AI computing capacity.

The company now expects annual capital expenditures of between $135 billion and $145 billion, after raising the lower end of its previous forecast from $130 billion.

Meta is also building four “superclusters,” each with computing capacity exceeding one gigawatt, and expects to nearly double its overall infrastructure capacity in 2026 compared with the previous year.

AI Infrastructure Drives Massive Technology Investment

The fundraising plan comes amid a broader wave of spending on AI infrastructure by major cloud and technology companies.

Goldman Sachs estimates that AI-related capital expenditure could reach approximately $7.6 trillion between 2026 and 2031 across computing, data centers and energy.

Meta’s latest move follows similar financing efforts across the technology sector. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, said it planned to raise $85 billion in June, while SpaceX completed a $40 billion financing round to purchase graphics processing units.

Meta Reports Strong Revenue Growth

Meta’s third-quarter revenue increased 26% year over year to $64.60 billion, exceeding analysts’ expectations of $63.37 billion.

However, investors focused more heavily on the company’s negative free cash flow and higher capital expenditure outlook.

Following the latest announcement, Meta shares gained 1.6% in premarket trading.
