MoHP and Huawei Partner to Deploy AI in Remote Cancer Diagnostics
The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) announced the expansion of digital transformation in the medical sector through a partnership with global technology giant Huawei. The collaboration aims to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies into tissue examination, tumor diagnostics, and telemedicine, enhancing the quality and efficiency of healthcare services across all governorates.
This came during an extensive meeting chaired by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, with leadership representatives from Huawei, in the presence of key ministry officials, to review mechanisms for implementing state-of-the-art technology within the Egyptian healthcare system.
Launch of the "National Digital Pathology and Telemedicine Network"
The meeting addressed the details of the "National Digital Pathology and Telemedicine Network" project, which targets the implementation of digital cellular and tissue examination systems powered by AI algorithms. The project aims to accelerate diagnostic workflows, increase precision, and facilitate second opinions and consultations between specialized hospitals and medical centers nationwide.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, Official Spokesperson for the Ministry, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Ministry's strategic vision for digital transformation and supports the goals of "Egypt Vision 2030." He noted that the project establishes an integrated network for archiving and sharing digital slides, transforming hospitals into research hubs that attract specialized medical talent.
Technology Localization and Financial Burden Reduction
The Ministry Spokesperson highlighted that the project relies on knowledge transfer and localizing modern technology within Egyptian facilities, alongside supporting training programs for physicians to master advanced digital diagnostic tools.
He added that enabling early cancer detection using AI will directly lower advanced treatment costs, thereby alleviating the financial burden on the Universal Health Insurance system.
Boosting Medical Tourism and International Consultations
The project opens broad horizons for leveraging Egyptian medical expertise to offer remote medical reporting and consultations. It also strengthens Egypt's position on the medical tourism map by allowing pre-arrival digital assessments and treatment planning for international patients before they travel to Egyptian healthcare facilities.

The meeting was attended by:
Dr. Mohamed El-Tayeb and Dr. Amr Kandil (Deputy Ministers of Health and Population).
Dr. Sherif Moustafa (Assistant Minister for National Projects).
