Google Unveils Fitbit Edge Fitness Tracker with Smart Health Features
Google has introduced a new fitness tracker under its Fitbit brand, combining the functionality of a smartwatch with health and fitness monitoring features in a slimmer and simpler design.
Fitbit Edge Features a Smartwatch-Like Display
Priced at $180, the Fitbit Edge features a 1.34-inch oval display that gives the fitness tracker a smartwatch-like appearance while maintaining its focus on health and fitness tracking.
The device comes with a replaceable strap and offers up to seven days of battery life on a single charge. It also supports fast charging, providing enough power for an additional day after just five minutes of charging.
The Fitbit Edge can automatically detect workouts and offers a range of health-monitoring capabilities, including proactive tracking of health trends and the ability to monitor changes in insulin resistance.
Pre-Orders and Special Edition
Google is offering the Fitbit Edge in four colors, with pre-orders now available. Deliveries to customers who place advance orders are scheduled to begin on October 27.
The company will also introduce a special edition named after American basketball player Stephen Curry, who serves as a Google adviser. The Stephen Curry edition will cost $220 and will be available in a limited number of markets.
Google Health Premium Subscription
The new Fitbit Edge also provides Google with another way to promote its redesigned health platform, which was launched in May.
While Google’s basic health platform is available free of charge, the company also offers Google Health Premium for $10 per month or $100 per year.
The premium subscription provides access to additional advanced features, including an AI-powered fitness coach.
Customers purchasing the Fitbit Edge will receive a three-month complimentary subscription to Google Health Premium at no additional cost.
