Egypt Strengthens Cyber Security: MCIT’s Strategic Efforts During Cybersecurity Awareness Month

The Egyptian state places cybersecurity at the forefront of its national priorities to support digital transformation and safeguard critical infrastructure. Coinciding with Global Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) highlights its ongoing strategy to secure digital space and build national talent.

Integrated Governance and Protection Strategies

As the highest national authority, the Supreme Cybersecurity Council works to protect digital assets and ensure business continuity under the National Cybersecurity Strategy (2023–2027), building on the achievements of its first edition (2017–2021). On the operational front, the Egyptian Computer Emergency Readiness Team (EG-CERT) leads incident response, threat monitoring, and vulnerability management, while organizing specialized training and cyber drills.

Major Achievements and Global Recognition

National efforts have yielded notable regional and international milestones, including:

Executing over 760 cyber defense operations across Egypt during 2025.

Achieving Tier 1 status with a 100% score in the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) Global Cybersecurity Index 2024.

Signing the UN Convention against Cybercrime.

Winning the Arab Excellence Award and securing top positions in international cyber drills.

Talent Development and Entrepreneurship

MCIT prioritizes capacity building through tailored programs for all age groups:

Youth Cybersecurity Academy: Graduated over 6,000 trainees in its latest cohort to promote safe internet practices.

Mahara-Tech Platform: Offers structured learning paths ranging from basic security to professional expertise.

"We Innovate" Program: Provides a complete pathway for skills and entrepreneurship, supporting startups focused on protecting critical information infrastructure.

Community Awareness and Future Vision

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) reaches all segments of society and civil servants through the campaign "Know Your Rights and Services, Protect Your Device and Data" to raise digital literacy. MCIT continues to modernize defense mechanisms and foster innovation to guarantee a secure, sustainable digital environment.
