12 Egyptian Tech Companies Head to Baghdad as Egypt Looks to Expand Digital Exports
Twelve Egyptian technology companies are heading to Baghdad in a coordinated push to secure new business in Iraq, as Egypt looks to turn its growing digital capabilities into a stronger regional export industry.
The companies will participate in ITEX Iraq 2026, taking place at the Baghdad International Fair from September 30 to October 3, through an Egyptian pavilion organized by the Chamber of Information Technology and Telecommunications (CIT) and the Egyptian Exporters Association – Expolink, with support from the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).
Rather than serving solely as a showcase for Egyptian technology, the mission is designed around direct access to potential customers and partners in a market accelerating investment in digital government and technology infrastructure.
The delegation brings together companies working across digital transformation, artificial intelligence, fintech, enterprise software, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data centers, smart cities, healthcare technology, education and outsourcing.
Baghdad opens a door to government digital projects
One of the strongest opportunities for the Egyptian delegation will come from the location of its pavilion.
The Egyptian companies will be based in Hall 5 alongside Iraqi digital government entities, giving them direct exposure to government delegations and decision-makers attending the exhibition.
Around 33 Iraqi government entities, including 16 ministries, are expected to participate, spanning areas such as planning, education, health, trade, transport, agriculture, oil, insurance and defense, alongside the Central Bank of Iraq.
That presence could make the exhibition particularly relevant for Egyptian companies selling business-to-government technology, enterprise platforms and infrastructure rather than consumer products.
The companies will also hold B2B meetings with investors, technology executives and potential partners to explore opportunities around digital transformation and smart services.
Egypt looks beyond software exports
Khaled Ibrahim, Chairman of CIT, said the participation is intended to explore technology partnerships with the Iraqi market while supporting the wider economic and technology relationship between the two countries.
He said the Egyptian delegation includes companies with experience in large-scale technology projects and digital transformation, with the mission seeking to create longer-term commercial links rather than limiting participation to the four-day exhibition.
The initiative also brings together three organizations with different roles in Egypt’s technology export ecosystem: CIT representing the industry, Expolink supporting exporters and ITIDA backing the development and international expansion of the country’s IT sector.
That structure reflects a wider shift in Egypt’s technology export ambitions, where international expansion increasingly involves helping local companies establish commercial relationships and enter new markets rather than focusing only on exporting software remotely.
Iraqi demand creates room for Egyptian technology firms
Mohamed Said, Head of International Business Development and Export Support at CIT, said Iraq represents a promising market for Egyptian technology companies as the country expands digital transformation across government and business.
The Egyptian pavilion will target opportunities across ERP and CRM systems, telecom solutions, cloud services, AI, software applications, IT consulting, cybersecurity, data centers, financial technology, training, education technology, smart cities and digital health.
Outsourcing and offshoring services will also form part of the offering.
The breadth of the delegation means Egyptian companies will be competing for opportunities ranging from enterprise software and government modernization projects to infrastructure and technology services.
For CIT, the objective is to use the exhibition to build direct links between the Egyptian and Iraqi technology communities and convert those relationships into commercial and investment partnerships.
ITEX Iraq expands its government footprint
The fifth edition of ITEX Iraq is being held under the theme “Time to Digital” and will span seven specialized exhibition halls covering different segments of the ICT industry.
The event is backed by several Iraqi institutions, including the Ministry of Communications, the Communications and Media Commission, the Central Bank of Iraq and the General Company for Communications and Informatics.
Alongside the exhibition, ITEX Iraq will host industry sessions examining technology trends and the next stage of digital development in the country.
For the 12 Egyptian companies arriving in Baghdad, however, the key test will come after the exhibition: whether direct access to Iraqi ministries, businesses and investors can translate Egypt’s growing technology capabilities into contracts, partnerships and a more permanent commercial presence in the Iraqi market.
