Egypt’s Net International Reserves Climb to Record $57.215 Billion in August 2026

Egypt’s net international reserves rose to approximately $57.215 billion by the end of August 2026, up from roughly $56.294 billion at the close of July, marking a month-on-month increase of nearly $921 million, according to official data released by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).

The latest uptick sustains an unbroken upward trajectory for Egypt’s foreign reserves. Reserves previously climbed from $55.0723 billion at the end of June to $56.2939 billion by late July, adding roughly $1.22 billion over that single-month period.

According to the latest figures, net foreign reserves expanded by approximately 1.6% month-on-month in August, continuing to set historic highs supported by improved foreign currency inflows into the Egyptian economy.

Egypt’s foreign reserve basket comprises a mix of major international convertible currencies, gold holdings, and Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The total valuation is continually influenced by global currency fluctuations and shifts in the market valuation of underlying reserve assets.

Reinforcing Economic Resilience and External Solvency

The steady accumulation of reserves plays a vital role in bolstering the Egyptian economy’s ability to meet external debt service commitments, secure essential commodity and strategic imports, and enhance the central bank’s capacity to buffer potential pressures across the foreign exchange market.

Net international reserves have tracked a continuous climb over recent months, rising from $53.13 billion at the end of May to $55.07 billion in June, reaching $56.29 billion in July, and hitting $57.215 billion by late August.

This growth coincides with a noticeable recovery across multiple foreign exchange channels, led primarily by remittances from Egyptians working abroad. The CBE previously reported that remittances totaled $47.3 billion during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, significantly reinforcing foreign currency liquidity and enabling the sustained replenishment of international reserves.
