US Dollar Inches Up Against Egyptian Pound as Expatriate Remittances Hit Record $47.3B

The US Dollar recorded slight gains against the Egyptian Pound across major public and private banks on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Local market participants continue to monitor foreign exchange movements closely, as exchange rates remain a key determinant of domestic commodity and import prices.

According to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), the average exchange rate stood at EGP 50.87 for buying and EGP 50.97 for selling.

Arab Currencies Performance

Regional currencies also gained ground against the Egyptian Pound on Tuesday:

Saudi Riyal (SAR): Traded at EGP 13.51 for buying and EGP 13.57 for selling at the National Bank of Egypt, and reached EGP 13.61 for buying and EGP 13.64 for selling at Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.

UAE Dirham (AED): Registered at EGP 13.83 for buying and EGP 13.87 for selling at the National Bank of Egypt, while trading at EGP 13.91 for buying and EGP 13.94 for selling at Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.

Surging Expatriate Remittances

The currency movements coincide with record inflows from Egyptians working abroad. Expatriate remittances reached an all-time high of $47.3 billion during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, marking a 29.6% surge compared to $36.5 billion in FY 2024/2025. The upward trajectory accelerated in June 2026, with monthly remittances rising 15.6% year-over-year to hit $4.2 billion, up from $3.6 billion in June 2025.
