US Dollar Edges Higher Against Egyptian Pound in Sunday Trading Following Central Bank Rate Hold
The U.S. Dollar (USD) recorded a modest uptick against the Egyptian Pound (EGP) in early trading across state-owned and private commercial banks on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
According to official data from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), the average exchange rate stood at EGP 50.82 for buying and EGP 50.92 for selling.
The currency movement follows the latest decision by the CBE's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) to keep benchmark interest rates unchanged. The overnight deposit rate was maintained at 19.00%, the overnight lending rate at 20.00%, and the main operation and discount rates at 19.50%, reflecting the committee's ongoing assessment of inflation dynamics and macroeconomic expectations.
