The Egyptian Ministry of Interior has apprehended an individual in Minya Governorate on charges of defrauding citizens by impersonating bank customer service representatives and seizing their funds using electronic payment card data.

According to the Ministry, investigations conducted by the General Department of Public Funds Investigations revealed that the suspect, residing within the jurisdiction of the Al-Adwa Police Center in Minya, deceived citizens into believing he was a bank employee. He requested their e-payment card details under the pretext of updating their banking information.

Investigators stated that the suspect utilized the obtained data to steal victims' money, execute purchases through online shopping websites, and transfer funds to several of his personal electronic wallets.

Following legal procedures, security forces arrested the suspect and seized two mobile phones—which contained digital evidence confirming his criminal activities—along with four mobile SIM cards.

Upon confrontation, the accused confessed to conducting these illicit operations, admitting to 12 fraudulent incidents committed using the same method. Authorities have taken the necessary legal measures regarding the case.
