Visa Launches Upgraded ”A2A Protect” Solution Integrating Featurespace AI to Combat Account-to-Account Payment Fraud
Global digital payments leader Visa has unveiled an enhanced version of its "A2A Protect" solution, designed to provide real-time fraud risk scoring and empower financial institutions to detect and mitigate account-to-account (A2A) transfer fraud with greater speed and precision.
The updated solution introduces a unified fraud scoring engine, marking the inaugural commercial integration of Featurespace technology into Visa’s market-facing product suite. By combining advanced artificial intelligence with transfer-learning models, the system delivers precise risk signals that maximize fraud capture while minimizing false positives.
Surging A2A Adoption and Instant Protection
Direct account-to-account payments are expanding rapidly worldwide, with global A2A transactions projected to exceed 5.8 trillion by 2028—a 160% surge compared to 2024.
Addressing this expansion, A2A Protect bypasses traditional onboarding hurdles:
Immediate Deployment: Advanced transfer-learning architecture provides banks with day-one global fraud intelligence, eliminating the typical months-long ramp-up required for machine learning models to train on internal institutional data.
Collective Network Signals: Participating institutions can opt in to tap cross-network data exchanges, identifying coordinated fraud rings and emerging threat vectors across the broader payments ecosystem before funds settle.
"Fraudsters are becoming faster and more organized in exploiting payment rails, making access to timely risk signals vital for financial institutions without compromising legitimate transaction speeds," said Walter Lironi, Senior Vice President and Head of Value-Added Services for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (CEMEA) at Visa. "Combining Visa’s payment network expertise with Featurespace’s technology offers an advanced protective layer to catch unauthorized transfers before money moves."
Seamless Architecture and Actionable Insights
The solution integrates into existing banking core systems via a single API, significantly shortening implementation timelines and reducing integration complexity. Additionally, each generated alert includes a clear-language explanation detailing why a transaction was flagged, enabling risk teams to make rapid, defensible fraud determinations without degrading the end-user customer experience.
