 Taiwanese technology firms are preparing to inject an additional $20 billion into the United States, propelled by soaring global demand for artificial intelligence applications and advanced semiconductors.

Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin announced the investment plans on Wednesday during the inauguration of the US Pavilion at the SEMICON Taiwan trade show in Taipei. Kung noted that the Ministry conducted a comprehensive survey starting in May to evaluate domestic firms—beyond foundry giant Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)—that intend to expand their US manufacturing and supply chain footprints.

The evaluation confirmed committed plans totaling approximately $20 billion in fresh capital expenditure, though specific company names, project scopes, and target sectors were not disclosed.

AI Boom Accelerates US Expansion

Kung emphasized that the unprecedented surge in demand for high-performance chips and AI workloads is compelling Taiwanese suppliers to establish closer proximity to their US client base.

The announcement aligns directly with Washington’s strategic push to onshore critical semiconductor manufacturing, fortify domestic technology supply chains, and diminish reliance on foreign assembly networks for vital national infrastructure.

TSMC's Landmark Footprint in Arizona

Taiwan stands as the premier global powerhouse in advanced semiconductor production, anchored by TSMC’s massive investments on American soil:

Expansion Target: In July, TSMC committed an additional $100 billion to its Arizona operations.

Total US Commitment: The latest pledge raises TSMC’s projected total capital investment in the United States to approximately $265 billion.

Operational Focus: The Arizona fabrication sites are engineered to produce advanced node silicon designed for hyperscale data centers, high-performance computing (HPC), and cutting-edge artificial intelligence platforms.
