Egyptian Food Exports Hit Record $4.47 Billion in First 7 Months of 2026, Driven by EU and Arab Demand

Egypt’s food industries sector achieved a historic milestone during the first seven months of 2026, recording its highest-ever export value for this period. Driven by increased global competitiveness, product diversification, and aggressive market expansion, total food exports surged to $4.473 billion between January and July.

The figures represent a 10.7% year-on-year (YoY) growth, injecting an additional $433 million into the national economy compared to the $4.040 billion recorded during the same period in 2025.

The Food Export Council attributed this robust performance to a diversified export base, noting that the growth was widespread across 114 international markets rather than concentrated in a few specific destinations. The second quarter (Q2) of 2026 was the primary growth engine, accounting for nearly 65% of the total export value increase during the seven-month period.

Chocolate: Achieved the highest absolute growth, surging 114% to $262 million (an increase of $140 million).

Declining Commodities: Sugar (-19% to $176M) and flour (-19% to $149M) both recorded contractions.

Note: The top 30 food commodities accounted for 89% of the sector's total exports.

Strategic Outlook

The Food Export Council reiterated its commitment to sustaining this momentum by targeting high-potential markets, particularly across non-Arab African nations. While exports to non-Arab Africa saw marginal growth (up 2.3% to $307 million), the Council aims to leverage regional trade agreements and intensive trade missions to unlock deeper value on the continent, further supporting the state's broader macroeconomic target of expanding non-petroleum foreign currency revenues.
