Shein IPO Valuation Plummets Below $30 Billion as Fast-Fashion Giant Pivots to Hong Kong Listing

Advisors for Shein are currently marketing the fast-fashion giant to potential investors at a valuation of less than $30 billion, marking a steep decline of nearly 70% from its peak. This significant markdown comes as the company struggles to drum up investor enthusiasm for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) that has been in the pipeline for over four years.

Last month, Chinese regulators officially approved the apparel behemoth's application to list in Hong Kong, clearing a major hurdle and paving the way for the long-awaited public offering.

Regulatory Hurdles and Strategic Pivots

Shein’s previous ambitions to list on stock exchanges in New York and London were derailed by intense political opposition and mounting regulatory scrutiny over the company’s Chinese supply chain.

Valuation Shift: From Peak to Present

The current sub-$30 billion valuation represents a dramatic recalibration from the company's peak financial standing just two years ago.

According to two individuals familiar with the company's internal plans, Shein has set a baseline valuation target of $30 billion. However, if the company is forced to price its shares below this critical threshold, it may need to reconvene and consult with existing private investors before moving forward with the public listing.

Another insider speaking to the Financial Times noted that prospective investors have primarily signaled interest in acquiring shares at a valuation ranging in the "mid-to-high twenties" of billions of dollars.
