Egyptian Tax Authority Calls on Social Media Promoters to Register and Document Ads Electronically
The Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA) has called upon the owners of social media pages and accounts that promote products or publish advertisements to strictly comply with the regulatory and tax procedures governing their activities. This compliance mandates registering with the Authority and obtaining a formal tax registration number.
Integration into the Formal Economy
The ETA emphasized the critical importance of documenting advertisements and financial transactions through the electronic invoicing (e-invoicing) system. This step is designed to accurately verify transactions and protect the rights of business owners. It aligns seamlessly with the state's broader strategic efforts to expand digital transformation and integrate various informal commercial activities into the formal economy.
Comprehensive Guidelines and Support
The Authority clarified that advertisers and service providers can easily familiarize themselves with all the necessary steps for utilizing the e-invoicing system. A comprehensive, dedicated service guide is readily available on the ETA's official website.
Furthermore, the ETA added that for direct business-to-consumer (B2C) dealings, individuals can refer to the electronic receipt (e-receipt) system guide. This resource outlines the specific procedures and requirements for properly documenting transactions with end consumers.
To facilitate this transition, the Authority has made technical support and inquiry services available through its dedicated hotline, 16395. Taxpayers also have the option to visit the Digital Transformation Support Center located at the Public Treasury building, or the Support Center within the Central Administration for Electronic Transactions.
Strategic Shift Toward Digital Taxation
These measures are part of the ETA's ongoing strategic initiative to expand the implementation of both the e-invoicing and e-receipt systems. By enhancing the digital transformation of tax operations, the Authority aims to effectively regulate commercial and advertising activities while ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately and electronically documented.
