Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra Specs Leak Ahead of July Launch
Samsung’s next-generation foldable smartphones have been exposed in a wide-ranging leak that reveals major differences between the redesigned Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the more powerful Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, days before their expected official unveiling.
The leaked specifications, first published by German technology outlet WinFuture and subsequently reported by 9to5Google and PhoneArena, suggest that Samsung will split its flagship book-style foldable range into two distinct formats: a wider, more compact Fold 8 and a traditional premium model carrying the Ultra name.
Samsung has confirmed that its next Galaxy Unpacked event will be held in London on July 22, 2026, under the slogan «A New Shape Unfolds», although it has not officially confirmed the devices or their specifications.
The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to introduce a wider, passport-style design intended to make the device feel more like a conventional smartphone when closed.
It will reportedly feature a 5.5-inch external display with a resolution of 1,972 by 1,248 pixels and a 7.6-inch folding screen with a resolution of 2,448 by 1,848 pixels. Both Dynamic AMOLED 2X panels are expected to support a 120Hz refresh rate.
The wider internal display is said to use a 4:3 aspect ratio, potentially making the device better suited to video, reading and side-by-side multitasking than Samsung’s traditionally tall Fold models.
Samsung has already teased what it calls a «brand new shape» in a promotional video linked to the forthcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day film. The briefly shown device appears to open like a book and adopts the wider proportions described in the leaks.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, paired with 12GB of RAM on most configurations and potentially 16GB on the 1TB version.
Storage options are reportedly set at 256GB, 512GB and 1TB, while connectivity features are expected to include 5G, Wi-Fi 7, NFC and Bluetooth 6.0.
The phone could carry a 4,800mAh battery and support 45W wired charging, a meaningful improvement over the slower charging speeds traditionally offered by Samsung’s foldable devices.
Its rear camera system is expected to include a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilisation and a 50-megapixel ultrawide sensor. Two 10-megapixel selfie cameras would be placed on the external and internal displays.
At around 201 grams, the wider model could also be unusually light for a book-style foldable. The leaked measurements indicate a thickness of approximately 4.5 millimetres when unfolded, while an IP48 rating would provide protection against water and larger solid particles.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to retain a taller design closer to Samsung’s current flagship foldable, but with stronger cameras, a larger battery and a sharper internal screen.
Its external display is reportedly a 6.5-inch, 2,520-by-1,080-pixel panel, while the folding display could measure 8 inches with a resolution of 2,504 by 2,256 pixels. Both screens are expected to operate at up to 120Hz.
The Ultra model’s camera system could be one of its main advantages. Leaks point to a 200-megapixel primary camera, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, accompanied by two 10-megapixel selfie cameras.
Samsung is also expected to equip the Ultra with a 5,000mAh battery and 45W wired charging. The device could measure about 4.1 millimetres thick when unfolded, making it slightly thinner despite the larger battery and display.
Both models are said to use a titanium-based structure beneath the folding screen. Samsung has promoted the technology as «Flex Titanium», claiming that it will strengthen the display while making the crease across the hinge less visible.
The Ultra is expected to offer 12GB of RAM with 256GB and 512GB storage versions, rising to 16GB of RAM with the 1TB model.
European pricing could begin at approximately €1,999 for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and €2,199 for the Fold 8 Ultra, although final prices will vary by market and have not been confirmed by Samsung.
Colour options mentioned in the leak include Graphite, Cream, Lavender and an online-exclusive Pistachio finish for the standard Fold 8. The Ultra could be offered in Graphite, Cream, Violet Shadow and Green Shadow.
The leaked specifications suggest that Samsung is no longer treating its foldable range as a single premium product with minor storage variations.
Instead, the company appears ready to offer a lighter and wider device focused on everyday usability alongside an Ultra model built around camera performance, screen quality and higher-end specifications.
Official details on pricing, availability, software features and regional configurations are expected when Samsung holds its Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22.
