Osama Kamal at CAISEC 2026: Digital Sovereignty for Arab and African Nations is as Crucial as Territorial Sovereignty
During his opening remarks at the 5th Information Security and Cybersecurity Conference and Exhibition (CAISEC 2026), Osama Kamal, Chairman of Mercury Communications—the organizing body of the event—stated that technology is no longer a standalone sector. Today, it serves as the foundational infrastructure and the primary catalyst driving all other industries.
Kamal reflected on the origins of the CAISEC conference, noting that its inaugural edition was launched five years ago in 2022. This launch coincided with the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, an event whose subsequent repercussions directly reshaped the global cybersecurity ecosystem.
Addressing attendees, Kamal explained that the period spanning from the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis to the current regional challenges has conclusively proven that crises breed opportunities. They create an undeniable imperative for rapid technological development. He emphasized that the time has come for Africa and the Arab world to actively participate in leading global technological advancement, working in tandem with pioneering global entities and nations in the field.
Kamal strongly asserted that the digital sovereignty of Arab and African countries is just as vital as their sovereignty over land and airspace. Achieving this requires keeping pace with the rapid, ongoing developments in cybersecurity and information security. He confirmed that these critical geopolitical and technological themes will be at the forefront of the discussions taking place throughout the fifth edition of CAISEC 2026.
