Expo City Dubai Awards $700,000 to Seven Global Innovators Tackling Climate Change
Celebrating a decade of innovation, Expo City Dubai has announced the winners of the 8th cycle of its Global Innovation Programme. Out of more than 1,000 applicants from 84 countries, seven projects from Egypt, Morocco, India, Peru, and Nigeria were selected for their pioneering solutions to heat and climate challenges. Each winner will receive up to $100,000 in funding, alongside technical mentorship and networking opportunities. Notable winners include an Egyptian project developing cooling umbrellas from ocean waste and a Moroccan initiative creating sustainable building materials using local techniques.
Yousuf Caires, Executive Director of the Expo City Dubai Foundation, emphasized that the high volume of applications reflects a global momentum toward climate action. "We are honored to support these promising solutions as they scale," Caires stated, noting that since its inception as "Expo Live" in 2016, the programme has supported over 200 entrepreneurs across 97 countries, positively impacting more than 6 million lives. This cycle, judged by experts from Emirates and ENGIE, further cements Dubai’s role as a global platform for scalable, high-impact sustainability initiatives.
