Minister of Communications Meets with HONOR Executives to Accelerate Smartphone Manufacturing and Export Operations in Egypt
Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Rafat Hendy, held a high-level meeting with executives from HONOR, the global leader in smart devices and AI-powered technology, to discuss the company’s strategic expansion plans for smartphone manufacturing in Egypt. The meeting, which included HONOR’s President for the Middle East and Africa, Ingmar Wang, alongside key Egyptian government officials and industry partners, centered on scaling local production to meet domestic demand while positioning Egypt as a primary export hub for the region.
The discussions underscored HONOR’s ongoing collaboration with its local manufacturing partner, Etisal for Import and Export. By leveraging Egypt's strategic location and investment-friendly climate, the company aims to establish its 10th of Ramadan City facility as a cornerstone of its operations in the Middle East and Africa. Both parties explored mechanisms to upgrade existing production lines, focusing on the transfer of cutting-edge manufacturing technology to Egyptian talent and fostering a local workforce capable of navigating the rapid advancements in the global smartphone industry.
Minister Rafat Hendy emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to developing the nation’s electronics manufacturing capabilities. He highlighted that building a robust, integrated national industry for mobile devices is a top priority, designed not only to satisfy the domestic market but also to drive regional exports. According to the Minister, the state is focused on creating an attractive investment environment—aligned with Egypt’s "Electronics Manufacturing Strategy"—by providing incentives and facilities that encourage global firms to localize their technology. This approach, he noted, is vital for transferring critical knowledge and creating sustainable, high-quality job opportunities for Egyptian youth.
Representing the global tech giant, Ingmar Wang, President of HONOR for the Middle East and Africa, expressed the company’s strong confidence in the Egyptian market. Wang noted that HONOR’s decision to partner with a strong local entity like Etisal is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of world-class products that meet the evolving needs of consumers. He highlighted that HONOR’s global footprint—supported by a workforce of over 14,000, 70% of whom are dedicated to research and development—serves as a foundation for its latest AI-driven smartphone innovations. Wang reaffirmed that the Egypt facility is a key component of their ambition to serve the broader regional market effectively.
Ahmad Abououf, General Manager of Etisal for Import and Export, described the decision to host HONOR’s first factory outside of China as a testament to the strength of the local investment landscape. The facility, which has already commenced trial operations with a formal inauguration slated for later this year, spans 8,000 square meters. It is equipped with five advanced production lines and two high-performance SMT lines designed to meet the highest international quality standards. With an annual production capacity reaching 3 million devices, the project is set to become a vital industrial hub, ultimately generating approximately 1,000 specialized job opportunities for the Egyptian workforce and cementing Egypt’s status as a critical player in the global technology manufacturing value chain.
