: Reclaiming History: Reem Bassiouney’s ”Kom Al-Nour” Sheds New Light on Khedive Abbas Helmy II
Nahdet Misr Publishing House celebrated the launch of the latest masterpiece by acclaimed novelist Dr. Reem Bassiouney, titled "Kom Al-Nour: Abbas Helmy II." The high-profile event was attended by H.E. Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity, and Dr. Ahmad Dallal, President of the American University in Cairo, among other distinguished public figures. The novel delves into a pivotal yet overlooked era of modern Egyptian history, focusing on the reign of Khedive Abbas Helmy II (1893–1914).
In "Kom Al-Nour," Bassiouney challenges traditional historical narratives, portraying the Khedive not merely as a ruler, but as a nationalist figure who resisted British occupation by fostering domestic development and education. By highlighting his role in founding the Egyptian University and supporting modern institutions, the novel invites readers to reconsider the legacy of a leader who was ultimately deposed and exiled in 1914. Dr. Dalia Ibrahim, CEO of Nahdet Misr, praised the work as a vital tool for reshaping public consciousness through the lens of literature.
