Mastercard Executes Live Agentic Payments in Latin America, Advancing AI-Driven Commerce
Mastercard announced the successful execution of fully integrated, real-world payment transactions powered by intelligent agents (Agentic Payments) across Latin America and the Caribbean, marking a significant step in moving AI-driven commerce from concept to practical implementation.
The transactions involved broad participation from banks, issuers, and processors across the region, including BAC, Banco Nación Argentina, Banco Falabella, Banco Galicia, Itaú, Banco Ripley, Banco Security de BICE, Bancolombia (a Cibest Group company), Banamex, Cencosud-Scotiabank, Davivienda, Dock, Evertec, Oriental Bank, Pomelo, Santander, and ueno bank.
These institutions carried out fully authorized, real payment transactions using debit and credit cards to purchase a range of products, including cosmetics, accessories, groceries, books, and digital goods.
Mastercard stated that these transactions demonstrate the capability of AI-powered agents to initiate and complete payments on behalf of consumers, with full cardholder consent. Notably, the system operates on existing payments infrastructure, eliminating the need to build new systems.
This milestone highlights the growing role of artificial intelligence in reshaping the payments landscape and accelerating the evolution of digital commerce globally.
