Orange Egypt Wins «Athar Award» for Best Practices in Sustainability and CSR
Orange Egypt has been awarded the «Athar Award for Best Practices in CSR and Sustainability» during its second edition, in recognition of the company’s leading institutional journey in embedding sustainability and corporate social responsibility across its operations and its active contribution to Egypt’s national development priorities.
The award underscores Orange Egypt’s role as a development partner delivering measurable and lasting social impact aligned with Egypt Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The «Athar Award» is considered one of the region’s prominent platforms dedicated to honoring best practices in sustainability and corporate responsibility. Its evaluation process relies on rigorous criteria that focus on measuring the real impact of initiatives, their alignment with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards, and their ability to transform social commitments into long-term development outcomes.
The award was received by Maha Nagy, Vice President for Public Relations, Media and Corporate Communication at Orange Egypt, who emphasized that the recognition reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to embedding sustainability and corporate responsibility as a strategic pillar across its operations.
Nagy said the recognition affirms that Orange Egypt’s sustainability strategy is built on a clear institutional vision centered on measurable outcomes and meaningful, long-term impact on people’s lives.
She added that the company continues to contribute to building a more inclusive and empowered digital society by investing in education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and youth development, while supporting entrepreneurship to create shared value for both the Egyptian economy and society.
2025: A milestone year for social impact
The recognition comes after a landmark year in 2025 for Orange Egypt’s sustainability and social responsibility journey, during which the company further evolved its CSR approach toward building long-term capabilities rather than providing short-term support.
In the field of education, Orange continued expanding its Orange Digital Schools, reaching 100 schools serving more than 3,000 students across different governorates, alongside initiatives that promote equal access to educational opportunities.
The company also strengthened its commitment to women’s economic empowerment, expanding the Orange Digital Centers for Women to 18 centers across Upper Egypt, benefiting more than 21,000 women through specialized training programs designed to enhance digital skills and support economic independence.
Empowering youth and entrepreneurs
Orange Egypt also intensified its efforts to empower young people digitally by supporting the national Digitopia competition in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The initiative contributed to training more than 25,000 young men and women in advanced technology fields including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital gaming, and creative technologies, helping prepare national talent for the digital economy.
Entrepreneurship support remained another key pillar of the company’s impact strategy. During the year, Orange organized the 15th edition of the Orange Social Venture Prize (OSVP) and sponsored the Enactus competition for the 19th consecutive year, while continuing to support the integration of people with disabilities into the technology sector as part of its commitment to digital inclusion.
Advancing sustainability across operations
Alongside its social initiatives, Orange Egypt made notable progress in environmental sustainability. More than 40% of the company’s network sites are now powered by renewable energy, reflecting its commitment to reducing environmental impact.
The company also collected and safely recycled more than 3,000 electronic devices from customers, while over 2,000 employees participated in awareness and training sessions aimed at strengthening sustainability culture across the organization.
Orange continues to reinforce transparency by issuing annual ESG reports that detail its initiatives, achievements, and future targets in sustainability and responsible business practices.
Supporting communities and social protection
In support of social protection efforts, Orange Egypt doubled customer donations through the Orange Cash wallet during Ramadan, contributing to the support of thousands of vulnerable families.
The company also maintained its support for critical healthcare initiatives, most notably through continued backing of the Baheya Foundation, which provides treatment and care for women battling breast cancer.
The award further reinforces Orange Egypt’s position as a strategic development partner adopting an integrated sustainability management model that combines responsible operational performance with positive social impact, while leveraging digital innovation as a driver for inclusive and sustainable development across Egypt.
