Egypt’s Deputy Finance Minister for Tax Policy Resigns Amid New Cabinet Formation
Several Egyptian media outlets reported that Sherif El-Kilani, Deputy Minister of Finance for Tax Policy, has submitted his resignation for personal reasons. This move coincides with the formation of the new cabinet led by Mostafa Madbouly.
Reports indicate that El-Kilani expressed his desire not to continue in his role. No official announcement has yet been made regarding his replacement within the new government structure, nor have details been provided about the timing of his resignation or the management of the tax policy file during the transition period.
El-Kilani assumed his position in July 2024 as part of the previous government and participated in implementing several tax system reform initiatives, including promoting voluntary compliance, expanding the tax base, integrating the informal economy, and simplifying procedures to provide facilitation for taxpayers—all aimed at improving the investment climate and supporting the private sector’s role in the economy.
