Egypt Airports Company and Orange Egypt Launch First AI-Powered Digital Assistant at Cairo International Airport
In a groundbreaking step towards digital transformation in Egypt’s aviation sector, the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN), in collaboration with Orange Egypt, has officially launched the country’s first AI-powered interactive digital assistant, “Ask Mariam,” at Cairo International Airport.
The launch event was attended by Eng. Ayman Fawzy Arab, Chairman of EHCAAN; Mr. Hisham Mahran, CEO and Managing Director of Orange Egypt; and Mr. Magdy Ishak, Chairman of Cairo Airport Company. The ceremony marked a key milestone in the airport’s comprehensive modernization project aimed at enhancing passenger experience and advancing digital services.
Through newly installed Smart Interactive Devices (SID) across Cairo International Airport, passengers and visitors can now instantly access a wide range of information — from flight details, check-in and arrival procedures, and airport facilities to transport options, taxi and limousine services, local attractions, and flight schedules — ensuring a smoother and more connected travel experience.
“Mariam” can communicate fluently in both Arabic and English, serving as an intelligent digital companion designed to make every traveler’s journey more seamless and enjoyable.
This initiative is part of EHCAAN’s broader digital transformation strategy, which focuses on deploying smart solutions that redefine the airport experience and align with Egypt’s national vision for digital transformation within the civil aviation sector.
Orange Egypt continues to play a strategic role in this transformation by providing free Wi-Fi access, device charging stations, and technical support kiosks throughout Cairo International Airport — reinforcing its position as a key partner in the airport’s technological development.
“The launch of ‘Ask Mariam’ at Cairo International Airport marks a significant milestone in our digital transformation journey,” said Eng. Ayman Arab, Chairman of EHCAAN. “It reflects our commitment to adopting innovative smart technologies that elevate service quality for passengers from around the world and showcases Orange Egypt’s leadership as a dynamic digital partner. We plan to expand this service to all Egyptian airports, starting with Sphinx International Airport, in tandem with the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum.”
Arab emphasized that this step comes in line with the directives of Minister of Civil Aviation Dr. Sameh Hafny, to transform Egyptian airports into fully digital operational hubs, adhering to the highest international standards in airport management and service delivery. “This project represents the beginning of a new era for Egyptian aviation — one built on innovation and modern technology,” he added.
For his part, Mr. Hisham Mahran, CEO and Managing Director of Orange Egypt, stated:
“Orange Egypt is proud to be a strategic partner in the digital transformation of Cairo International Airport — a vital gateway connecting Egypt to the world. This collaboration reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the nation’s digital infrastructure and enhancing passenger experiences through innovative, technology-driven solutions.”
Mahran added, “Through this partnership, we aim to reinforce Cairo International Airport’s position as a regional smart hub that meets global standards in service quality and digital excellence.”
