Kaspersky Launches Free Cybersecurity Course to Help Universities Integrate Digital Safety into Curriculums

Kaspersky has introduced “Cybersecurity: Entry Level”, a free online course designed to equip first- and second-year university students with essential knowledge in information security. The initiative targets both technical and non-technical majors, enabling universities to embed cybersecurity fundamentals into early academic training and prepare students for a digitally dependent world.

The move comes as cyber threats continue to escalate globally. According to Kaspersky’s IT Security Economics Report, 88% of organizations faced at least one cyber incident in 2024, with human error remaining a critical driver of breaches. As digital infrastructure becomes more integral across industries, demand for cyber-aware professionals is rising well beyond traditional IT fields—making cybersecurity literacy a necessity across academic disciplines.

The new course, developed by experts from Kaspersky Expertise Centers, consists of 26 video-based lessons ranging from five to thirty minutes. It covers four main modules:

Basic concepts of cybersecurity

Attacker tools and types of cyberattacks

Key areas of cybersecurity

The future of cybersecurity

The curriculum also provides students with practical guidance for protecting data and digital assets in everyday life, introduces real-world attack scenarios, and offers career orientation for those considering a path in information security. Participants who complete all self-assessment questions and achieve at least 70% on the final evaluation receive a Kaspersky certificate of completion.

“Cybersecurity is no longer the sole responsibility of IT departments—it’s a shared responsibility across all fields,” said Evgeniya Russkikh, Head of Academic Affairs at Kaspersky. “By introducing cybersecurity awareness early in a student’s journey, universities can help build a workforce that is both technically skilled and security-conscious. Competitiveness today begins with preparedness—and this course delivers exactly that.”

The program is offered through the Kaspersky Academy Alliance, a global partnership with universities that provides access to cutting-edge cybersecurity expertise and technologies. Universities can seamlessly integrate the course into their own learning management systems by request.
