Egypt Participates in ISO’s Global Capacity Building Journey on AI Policy and Standards

Monday 7 July 2025 13:12

Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), is taking part in the inaugural Capacity Building Journey (CBJ) on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy and Standards, organized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The program is being held from July 7 to 11 in Geneva, Switzerland.

This global initiative, conducted under the ISO Action Plan for Developing Countries 2021–2025, brings together international stakeholders for a series of workshops held before, during, and after the AI for Good Global Summit, the United Nations’ leading platform for promoting the use of AI to tackle global challenges.

Focus on Policy, Standards, and Collaboration

The CBJ is designed to serve two core objectives:

1. Raising awareness among stakeholders of the role that international standards and National Standards Bodies (NSBs) play in shaping effective AI governance aligned with Good Regulatory Practices (GRP).

2. Fostering closer collaboration between NSBs and national policymakers in defining and advancing priority areas in AI development and regulation.

The week-long program includes expert presentations, fireside chats, and interactive workshops that explore how international standards can translate global AI principles into practical policies. Topics include responsible AI deployment, enabling market access and trade cooperation, and aligning national regulations with global norms.

Human Rights and Capacity Building

The event also highlights the importance of integrating human rights considerations into AI policy frameworks and identifies key capacity-building needs in developing countries. Participating nations are sharing experiences, successes, and challenges in leveraging standards to implement national AI strategies and support innovation.

Egypt’s participation in the CBJ reinforces its commitment to international cooperation in emerging technologies and its role in shaping the global conversation on responsible AI adoption.
