Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA have announced the expansion of their strategic partnership to develop next-generation driver assistance and automated driving systems. The collaboration integrates advanced automotive engineering with cutting-edge software and accelerated computing, placing vehicle safety at its core.

Technical Integration Between MB.OS and Advanced NVIDIA Architecture

The updated partnership relies on integrating Mercedes-Benz’s proprietary operating system, MB.OS, with NVIDIA’s Hyperion compute and sensor architecture, the Alpamayo Stack AI driving software, and the Halos safety system.

While MB.OS enables new driving functions and over-the-air (OTA) software updates, the Alpamayo Stack provides advanced AI capabilities to analyze surrounding environments and make real-time decisions. Its applications include point-to-point urban driving assistance, active safety features, and automated parking.

Enhanced Redundancy and Preparation for Level 4 Autonomous Driving

The Halos safety system adds a parallel layer of protection that reinforces functional redundancy and preventive measures across Mercedes-Benz vehicles. This technical foundation paves the way for future applications reaching Level 4 (SAE) automated driving, including fully autonomous driverless limousines.

Executive Insights: Renewed Trust and Accelerated Computing Power

Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG responsible for Development and Procurement, emphasized that NVIDIA remains the company's most critical strategic partner in automated driving. He noted that their collaboration successfully delivered Mercedes-Benz's first point-to-point urban driver assist system for Western markets while maintaining uncompromising safety standards.

Ali Kani, Vice President of Automotive at NVIDIA, highlighted that accelerated computing grants vehicles the perception needed to handle complex driving scenarios, accelerating the deployment of safe, automated driving technologies in daily use.

Collaboration Beyond Vehicles: Digital Manufacturing via "MO360"

The partnership extends beyond in-vehicle software to encompass engineering simulation and digital manufacturing. Mercedes-Benz leverages NVIDIA technologies within its MO360 digital production ecosystem, utilizing virtual planning and AI applications to boost efficiency, flexibility, and quality across its global manufacturing network.
