Egypt Seeks More Qatari Investment as Both Sides Target Energy, Logistics and Infrastructure
Egypt and Qatar Target Stronger Investment Ties
Egypt and Qatar are seeking to expand their economic partnership and unlock new investment opportunities across several priority sectors in the Egyptian market.
Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad Dr. Badr Abdelatty discussed the plans with Qatar’s Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari during a meeting held on Friday on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Bangkok.
The talks focused on strengthening economic, financial and investment cooperation, with particular attention to increasing Qatari investment in Egypt.
Ambassador Nader Zaki, spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the meeting also addressed ways to develop bilateral economic relations and strengthen coordination between the two countries within the IMF and World Bank Group.
Infrastructure, Logistics and Energy Offer Investment Opportunities
Both sides welcomed the progress achieved in Egyptian-Qatari relations and stressed the importance of building on the growing cooperation to develop stronger economic and investment partnerships.
The discussions identified infrastructure, logistics and energy as key areas offering opportunities for additional Qatari investment.
Egypt and Qatar also explored ways to broaden their investment partnerships and capitalize on opportunities in sectors considered priorities for the Egyptian economy.
IFC Instruments Could Help Mobilize Private Capital
The two ministers discussed making greater use of International Finance Corporation instruments to secure financing and guarantees and attract additional private-sector investment.
Climate finance, green investment and infrastructure were among the main areas covered during the discussions.
The approach aims to support Egypt’s economic development priorities while increasing the private sector’s role in implementing development projects.
Regional Pressures Put Energy and Supply Chains in Focus
Regional developments and their economic implications were also addressed during the meeting.
The two sides stressed the need to reduce escalation, contain tensions and prevent conflicts from expanding, alongside stronger political and diplomatic efforts to reach settlements to ongoing crises.
They also highlighted the importance of coordination in addressing the economic consequences of regional instability, particularly its impact on energy markets, international trade and supply chains.
Rising import costs and additional pressure on regional economies were among the challenges discussed.
Egypt and Qatar emphasized continued joint efforts to mitigate these pressures, strengthen economic stability and create new investment and cooperation opportunities that support their mutual interests and sustainable development across the region.
