Apple Nears Partnership with ADT to Simplify Installation of Upcoming Smart Home Devices
Apple is moving to expand its presence in the smart home market through a potential strategic partnership with ADT, a company specializing in security and protection systems. The move aims to leverage ADT's extensive network of technicians to handle the installation of Apple's new devices in homes, sparing Apple the cost and effort of building an independent service and maintenance network from scratch.
A New Generation of Products Requiring Professional Setup
This step comes as Apple prepares for a new phase of competition in the connected home appliance market. Upcoming products include the anticipated "HomeView" device (available in two versions: for tabletops and wall mounting), alongside smart door locks, security cameras, video doorbells, and thermostats developed in collaboration with LG.
Unlike simpler products such as smart speakers or Apple TV that work simply by plugging them in, the new devices require dealing with low-voltage electrical wiring and professional wall mounting. This makes utilizing ADT's field expertise a practical and swift solution for reaching consumers.
Field Indicators Pointing to an Impending Partnership Announcement
Although the agreement has not been officially announced yet, strong field indicators support this direction. ADT has reportedly begun equipping newly hired technicians with iPhone 17 Pro devices for work tasks, a shift from the company's usual practice of using Android phones. Additionally, employees hired for these roles have signed non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and were informed that their responsibilities will involve handling and installing connected home equipment in customer homes across several U.S. cities.
Preparing for the Official Reveal and Apple's Future Vision
Apple is preparing to officially unveil its new smart home devices on October 13, as installation and operational support stand as key pillars for the success of these products. Their market spread relies heavily on ease of purchase and installation alongside technical capabilities. While details of the potential collaboration with ADT remain unclear—whether its role will be limited to device installation or extend to security monitoring services—the partnership will provide Apple with a strong boost to accelerate the deployment of its new devices and deliver a more integrated user experience.
