WhatsApp Develops New ”To You” Smart Filter to Streamline Mentions and Replies on Android
WhatsApp is currently developing a new smart filter for its chat list on Android devices, enabling users to quickly access conversations where they have been mentioned or directly replied to.
Dubbed "To You," the new filter consolidates chats containing direct interactions with the user—whether through mentions in group conversations or replies to their messages—into a single, easily accessible list.
The feature is designed to facilitate tracking important interactions, particularly within highly active groups where mentions and replies can easily get lost amid a high volume of incoming messages.
Upon activating the filter, users will be able to see all chats containing direct messages addressed to them, eliminating the need to open each group and manually search for the relevant mentions or replies.
Unlike traditional chat filters that organize conversations by specific categories, "To You" is driven by the nature of the interaction. This approach allows both group and community chats to appear alongside one another, provided they contain a mention or a reply to the user.
The filter will be optional; users can choose to keep it in the main filters list or move it to the "More" section, granting them greater control over customizing their chat interface layout.
This upcoming feature complements WhatsApp’s current notification system, which alerts users when they are mentioned or replied to. However, the new filter provides a persistent, reliable way to locate these interactions even after push notifications have been dismissed or cleared from the device.
The "To You" filter remains under development for the Android operating system and is not yet available to beta testers. An official rollout date for the general public has not yet been announced.
