Google Rolls Out Chrome Update for Android Featuring a Dedicated Back Button
Google has begun rolling out a new update for its Chrome browser on Android devices, introducing a dedicated back button inside the browser's main menu. This move responds to one of the most highly requested user features, aiming to streamline web navigation and enhance the overall browsing experience.
The new back button is part of the Chrome 150 release. Within the options menu—accessed via the three-dot icon—both the back and forward buttons are now displayed side-by-side. In previous versions, the menu only featured a forward button, forcing users to rely on Android's system-level back gesture or button to return to a preceding page.
This update gives users greater flexibility when navigating between webpages, particularly when managing multiple open tabs, by allowing them to go back directly from within the browser interface.
Interface and Settings Adjustments
In addition to navigation upgrades, the update brings modifications to the settings interface. Google has replaced the "Site information" option with "Site controls," which consolidates website configurations and permissions into a single location for easier access.
The company has also renamed the "Add to Home screen" option to "Install and create shortcut." This adjustment aims to clarify the feature's function for users, particularly when creating website shortcuts or installing Progressive Web Apps (PWAs).
Google has initiated a gradual rollout for Android users, meaning the new features may not arrive on all devices simultaneously due to the company's staged release policy.
Users can check for the availability of the new version via the Google Play Store. It is worth noting that certain features may be activated progressively through server-side updates even after the latest version of the browser has been installed.
