Launch of ”Karnak Chat” An intelligent assistant, built on an Egyptian large language model, reinforcing digital sovereignty and supporting the development of generative AI applications in Arabic.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announces the pilot launch of “Karnak Chat”, an intelligent conversational system built on the “Karnak” Large Language Model (LLM), developed by Egyptian minds and expertise at the Applied Innovation Center (AIC), an affiliate of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
Karnak was developed by enhancing the capabilities of the latest global open-source models. A vast collection of data and documents published in Egypt and across the Arab world has been carefully and objectively curated to place Karnak among the most accurate models in understanding of Arab culture and Egyptian identity, according to global benchmarks.
The primary objectives of Karnak are:
- Reinforcing digital sovereignty by running its software and the applications built on it, securely within local data centers, if needed.
- Delivering a Large Language Model with exceptional capabilities in understanding and generating both Modern Standard Arabic and Egyptian colloquial Arabic with high accuracy.
- Providing a foundational base for building generative AI applications in Egypt and the Arab world, opening the way for developing innovative solutions that serve diverse sectors.
- Availing an intelligent chatbot that draws on verified and reliable information, while taking Egyptian and Arab cultural context into account.
