At Just 10, Egyptian Coding Prodigy Martiros Mina Is Already Competing on the World Stage
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy has honored 10-year-old Martyros Mina for his achievements in programming and robotics, including top rankings in several local and international competitions. The honor reflects MCIT's ongoing commitment to identifying and supporting promising young technology talent.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to the ICT Minister for Technology Talent Development Hoda Baraka, along with Martyros' parents.
Hendy described promising technology talent as a national asset, noting that MCIT works to help young innovators turn their passion for technology into globally competitive solutions. He pointed to the Ministry's efforts to build a supportive environment for young people to develop their digital skills, pursue innovation, and take part in international competitions and forums, helping shape a generation capable of competing globally in advanced technology fields.
The Minister added that MCIT focuses on building children's technological skills from an early age through specialized initiatives, highlighting the Digital Egypt Marvels (DEMI) and Digital Egypt Cubs (DECI) initiatives, which offer training tracks tailored to different age groups and give young people the opportunity to build digital skills.
Martyros, a fourth-grade student, described his experience learning programming and robotics, which began at an early age. He built his first robot at five, began studying programming through a specialized academy at six, and entered his first local competition at seven. By eight, he was competing internationally in China, Estonia, and Romania, earning several awards and high rankings along the way.
Among his notable achievements is a gold medal in an international Python programming competition held in China this year, where he also ranked in the top 2 percent of participants worldwide, reflecting his exceptional ability at such a young age.
Hendy also reviewed one of Martyros' own creations: a tour-guide robot modeled after King Tutankhamun, designed to introduce visitors to Egyptian antiquities at the Egyptian Museum.
In recognition of his advanced abilities, Hendy directed that Martyros be admitted early into DECI's robotics and embedded systems track, despite not yet meeting the program's standard age requirement. He will first undergo an assessment of his programming skills, which will help place him in a training track suited to his level and further hone his abilities.
Hendy also presented Martyros with a laptop and a set of robotics kits, to encourage him to continue learning, develop his skills, and turn his innovative ideas into projects and solutions that can be built upon.
