Egypt chaired the meeting of the International Telecommunication Union's Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) Study Group 3 (SG3) on Tariff and Accounting Principles and International Telecommunication/ICT Economic and Policy Issues, held from July 28 to August 5 in Geneva, Switzerland.

Delegates from Member States and Sector Members held discussions on key financial, economic, and policy issues shaping the global digital economy, including satellite connectivity, over-the-top (OTT) services, the Internet of Things (IoT), global internet connectivity, and the economic implications of artificial intelligence.

The meeting concluded with the approval of several key deliverables. The Focus Group on Costing Models for Affordable Data Services (FG-CD) concluded its work with the agreement of four technical reports addressing equitable global digital access. SG3 also agreed on technical reports covering the economic and policy frameworks of network slicing.

Two new work items were approved: one to examine the economic and regulatory aspects of eSIM deployment for IoT environments, and one, proposed by Egypt, to study the economic and regulatory implications of IPv6.

It is worth highlighting that Egypt has a longstanding commitment to ITU that spans over six decades, playing an active role in shaping the Union's work at both the regional and global levels. Egypt is also the only Member State chairing a study group across all three ITU sectors, as well as the General Secretariat, underscoring the depth of its technical expertise and the international community's continued confidence in its leadership.
