Orange Egypt Launches Interactive Environmental Initiative to Promote Climate Awareness on World Environment Day
Orange Egypt has launched an innovative environmental engagement initiative for its employees as part of its World Environment Day 2026 celebrations, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability, climate action, and carbon reduction.
Held on Al-Qursaya Island in Cairo in collaboration with Dayma Foundation, the initiative was organized under the theme “Inspired by Nature… For the Climate… For Our Future” and forms part of the Orange Group’s global “Engage for Change” platform, which encourages employee participation in sustainability and environmental responsibility programs.
The initiative brought together employees from across different business units, alongside Orange Egypt CEO and Managing Director Hisham Mehran, reflecting the company’s efforts to strengthen climate awareness and foster a culture of environmental responsibility within the workplace and the wider community.
Through a series of hands-on activities and field-based learning experiences, participants were given the opportunity to engage directly with climate-related challenges and gain a deeper understanding of environmental issues. The program aimed to transform climate awareness into practical, sustainable behaviors that can be applied both professionally and personally.
Activities included guided exploration of Al-Qursaya Island’s local ecosystems to better understand the impact of climate change on vulnerable environments, biodiversity observation exercises, and interactive workshops focused on carbon footprint reduction and environmental sustainability.
Participants also took part in sessions highlighting nature-based solutions and biomimicry approaches, exploring how lessons from natural systems can help improve resilience and support sustainable development.
Advancing Decarbonization Efforts
As part of the event, Orange Egypt showcased its ongoing efforts, alongside Orange Group, to reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable operating model.
The company highlighted initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency across telecommunications networks and data centers, expanding the use of renewable energy sources, and deploying innovative technologies designed to minimize the environmental impact of its operations.
Orange also outlined progress under its global “Trust the Future” strategy, which places climate action and decarbonization at the center of the company’s long-term priorities.
The strategy targets achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 through the reduction of both direct and indirect emissions across the group’s operations, while developing more efficient and sustainable business models across all markets where it operates.
Supporting a Low-Carbon Future
Orange Egypt emphasized that the role of technology and telecommunications companies extends beyond providing digital services, noting that the sector has a key role to play in supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy.
The company believes technology can contribute significantly to improving resource efficiency, reducing emissions, and promoting environmental awareness among employees and communities.
The initiative reflects Orange Egypt’s broader commitment to integrating sustainability and climate action into its operations and corporate culture, while supporting Egypt Vision 2030 and contributing to the development of a more sustainable and resilient economy capable of addressing future environmental and climate challenges.
