The Egyptian Textile and Yarn Export Council participated in the "Textile Value Chains between the Mediterranean and Europe" conference, held in Gammarth, Tunisia, on September 3 and 4, 2026. Co-hosted by the European Apparel and Textile Confederation (EURATEX) and the Tunisian Federation of Textile and Apparel (FTTH), the event gathered key institutions, organizations, and corporate representatives from across the European and Mediterranean textile and apparel sectors.

Eng. Hany Salam, Chairman of the Export Council, emphasized that the Egyptian yarn and textile sector is an integral component of the global supply chain. He noted that participating in such events provides a critical platform for industry networking, fostering greater integration and collaboration among regional stakeholders.

Leveraging the Agadir Agreement for EU Export Growth

Salam highlighted that the Council’s participation aligns with efforts to bolster integration among the Agadir Agreement countries—Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, and Jordan. By capitalizing on the diverse industrial and export capabilities of each member state, the region can build a more cohesive supply chain equipped to meet European market demands, thereby accelerating export growth to the European Union.

He stressed that regional synergy could establish a comprehensive production and supply ecosystem, enhancing the competitiveness of Mediterranean products in Europe. Salam also underscored the importance of sustained coordination between government bodies, export councils, and private enterprises to maximize these opportunities.

Addressing Supply Chain Bottlenecks

The conference broadly addressed strategies to strengthen Euro-Mediterranean textile value chains, mitigate supply chain vulnerabilities, and increase overall industry resilience.

As part of the agenda, Rasha Faheem, Executive Director of the Export Council, moderated a pivotal session titled, "Where do the bottlenecks lie in developing the Euro-Mediterranean supply chain?" Faheem delivered an introductory presentation that framed the discussion around Agadir-Europe integration, backed by key cooperation metrics and economic indicators. She outlined several focal points to identify primary obstacles and priorities, concluding the session by leading a collaborative review of the strategic insights generated by participants throughout the conference.
