Egypt Expands Investment Incentives to Include Semiconductor Services Sector

The Egyptian government has officially added semiconductor services to the list of sectors eligible for investment incentives, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s position in advanced technology industries and attracting new investments in electronics design and semiconductor-related services.

The decision comes as part of Egypt’s broader strategy to localize advanced technology industries, support digital transformation, and increase the contribution of high-value technology sectors to the national economy.

According to reports, the move targets activities related to semiconductor services, electronic chip design, and advanced digital technologies, reflecting the government’s growing focus on positioning Egypt as a regional hub for technology innovation and electronics manufacturing.

Industry observers believe the inclusion of semiconductor services within the investment incentives framework could enhance Egypt’s competitiveness in attracting global technology companies seeking expansion opportunities in the Middle East and Africa.

The step also aligns with Egypt’s ongoing efforts to deepen localization in electronics manufacturing and expand exports of digital and technology services, particularly as the country continues investing in digital infrastructure, outsourcing services, and technology talent development.

Over the past few years, Egypt has accelerated efforts to attract international technology investments through incentives targeting electronics manufacturing, embedded software, chip design, and outsourcing services, supported by government-led initiatives aimed at building a sustainable digital economy.

Analysts say the semiconductor sector represents one of the most strategic industries globally due to its critical role in powering modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, telecommunications, automotive systems, cloud computing, and consumer electronics.

The government’s latest move is also expected to support Egypt’s ambitions to expand its role in global technology supply chains while creating high-skilled employment opportunities for Egyptian engineers and technology professionals.

Officials have repeatedly emphasized that Egypt’s large pool of engineering talent, competitive operating costs, and strategic geographic location position the country as a promising destination for technology and semiconductor-related investments serving regional and international markets.
